Polled Wagyu
Wagyu is known for excellent meat and great docility, but the one major negative to the breed can be that full blood animals are horned. Now for any cattle producer, horns mean extra work and just another obstacle in the cattle business. Purebred Polled Wagyu is the perfect solution to this issue. Purebred Polled Wagyu is very unique. These animals are mostly wagyu but were once crossed to a polled Angus to remove the horn gene giving us all the benefits of Wagyu but no horns! This doesn’t mean just one outcross, in order to be registered Purebred Polled Wagyu, they need to be at least 93.75% Wagyu, thus ensuring you have all the great Wagyu benefits. We feel that polled cattle are the future of the Wagyu breed, and we are very excited to be on the leading edge of this opportunity.
Within the polled Wagyu lines there are heterozygous and homozygous polled animals. Heterozygous animals still carry one horned gene, but will not have horns themselves. There is a 50% chance if bred back to a horned animal their offspring could have horns, but if bred to another polled animal all offspring will be polled. Homozygous polled animals have no horn gene present in them and can be out crossed to any animal giving you a guaranteed polled offspring, leaving the opportunities endless.
